This project is in a community that restricts the design to one of a handful of predetermined historic styles and prohibits modernism. So while trying to fit into the context  with traditional materials and massing, the objective is to update a santa barbara style of architecture with a modern more open feel using simple pure geometric forms and proportions. The project utilizes a courtyard layout open to the primary view and allows the public spaces/circulation direct access to the courtyard minimizing the use of interior walls.  Interior space is allowed to flow uninterrupted, and the goal is to create a modern version of a george washington smith type of house.                                                         back to projects
