carmelita residence:

This is a remodel to a 1950’s house on a relatively flat site in southern california. The first floor was reworked to open up the public spaces and to try to promote a strong relationship to the three exterior patios.  A master suite was added at the second level to take advantage of the canyons and ocean views. although in a suburban neighborhood, landscaping and topography offer privacy for the outdoor spaces of the major public living areas. The project incorporates forms and materials of the local housing vernacular to create a modern version of a beach cottage and maintain the scale and feel of the context.                                                                                                                   back to projects
